Help If You’ve Suffered a Dangerous Infection from Diabetes Medication

Diabetes is a major global health problem. Huge profits are at stake, and pharmaceutical companies are in a fierce battle to get their drugs prescribed. Among the most widely used are those known as SGLT2 inhibitors.

Unfortunately, these drugs can cause a severe genital infection called necrotizing fasciitis (also known as Fournier’s gangrene) that can result in disfigurement and even death.

A 2018 FDA drug infection warning was the first information consumers received concerning the risk posed by SGLT2 inhibitors, commonly prescribed to type 2 diabetes patients. If you or a family member has suffered from a severe genital infection while taking glucose-controlling drugs for type 2 diabetes, you may be eligible for compensation.

The class of drugs that can cause these infections is called sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 (SGLT2) inhibitors.

They are commonly prescribed to control blood glucose levels in type 2 diabetes patients. These drugs work by allowing the body to excrete excess glucose through urination.

While these are not the only drugs that lower blood sugar levels in type 2 diabetics, they are commonly prescribed in the United States. Often unknowingly, however, Americans fill their prescriptions and put themselves at risk for the dangerous genital bacterial infection known as Fournier’s gangrene (also called necrotizing fasciitis). The FDA-approved drugs known to cause this infection include

AstraZeneca (dapagliflozin)
Brand names: Farxiga, Xigduo XR, Qtern

Boehringer Ingelheim/Eli Lilly (empagliflozin)
Brand names: Jardiance, Glyxambi, Synjardy, Synjardy XR

Janssen/J&J (canagliflozin)
Brand names: Invokana, Invokamet, Invokamet XR

Merck (ertugliflozin)
Brand names: Steglatro, Segluromet, Stelujan

The FDA recently determined that incidents of genital infections have been linked to the class of diabetes drugs known as SGLT2 inhibitors. Commonly prescribed to patients suffering from type 2 diabetes, these medications have proven effective at regulating blood sugar levels.

However, any person taking one of the 13 drugs listed on the FDA diabetes drug infection warning may also be at risk for developing the severe genital infection Fournier’s gangrene.

Typically very rare and affecting only males, necrotizing fasciitis occurs at much higher rates when using these diabetes drugs.

Average onset of symptoms is nine months after beginning the medication. Antibiotics must be administered rapidly to stop the spread of the infection, and most patients also require surgery to remove infected tissues.

Permanent disfigurement may result in some cases, as well as acute kidney damage, diabetic ketoacidosis, and septic shock, which can result in death.

For them to have already have met for settlement talks in my case is quite impressive. I have never had any communication issues with them. They are quite thorough and have no problem updating you on your case, just give them a call. Be proactive in your communication with them and patient as they fight for us. I understand concerns regarding the time frame, I often daydream of being financially secure and providing a better life for my family, that day will come. I trust Onder Law.

I have nothing but confidence in Onder Law Firm. I’ve had the honor of meeting several of their staff at a social event and my fiance has since signed with them to handle a claim against a company. What alot of these people who have left bad reviews about them fail to realize is that their types of cases don’t get resolved overnight, they have a massive caseload on top of an already delayed court system, and they’re not going to call you just to say they have no update on your case They are going up against billion and trillion dollar companies who have an endless supply of resources. Be patient and let your attorneys do what they do…… THEY WILL WIN FOR YOU AND THEY WILL WIN BIG. They’ve never hidden the fact that the process will be long. But it WILL be worth it.

They are so friendly and caring. I trust them. They are doing the right thing for me and my family.
