ST. LOUIS, MO – Two people were taken to the hospital following a three-vehicle car crash this morning on Interstate 70, according to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
The accident occurred just before noon today on I-70 westbound, east of Missouri Highway 141.
A 2020 Jeep Compass driven by 35-year-old Brittany M. Reitz, of Evansville, Indiana, did not stop for traffic in front of her. The front of her Jeep hit the back of a 2017 Chevrolet Malibu driven by 24-year-old Austin O. Jones, of Granite City, Illinois. The front of the Chevrolet then hit the rear end of a 2019 Ram 2500 driven by Gregory C. Stout, 60, of Dow, Illinois.
Reitz was seriously injured in the crash and taken to the hospital. She was not wearing her seatbelt, according to the report.
A passenger in the Chevrolet, Maria D. Saul, 24, of Granite City, Illinois, experienced minor injuries. She, Jones, and Stout all were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.
The Chevrolet and Jeep were extensively damaged and had to be towed from the scene of the accident. The Ram received minor damage and was able to be driven away following the crash.
