696,000 Vehicles May Have Fuel Pump Safety Issues
Tuesday, February 11, 2020 – Toyota is recalling nearly 700,000 of its 2018-2019 model year Toyota and Lexus vehicles due to a problem with fuel pumps that have stopped operating while the vehicles are in use. Warning lights, instrument panel messages, and suddenly rough-running engines are all signs of this problem, which currently has no fix.
According to the Toyota announcement, “The subject vehicles are equipped with a fuel pump which may stop operating. If this were to occur, warning lights and messages may be displayed on the instrument panel, and the engine may run rough. This can result in a vehicle stall, and the vehicle may be unable to be restarted. If a vehicle stall occurs while driving at higher speeds, this could increase the risk of a crash.”
Has Your Toyota or Lexus Been Recalled?
The best way to determine if your vehicle has been recalled is to visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website, nhtsa.gov/recalls, and input your vehicle’s VIN. Recalls can occur often. Check the NHTSA site regularly to determine if your vehicle has been affected by a new recall.

- 2018-2019 Lexus IS 300
- 2018-2019 Lexus ES 350
- 2018-2019 Lexus LX 570
- 2018-2019 Lexus GX 460
- 2018-2019 Lexus RX 350
- 2018-2019 Toyota 4Runner
- 2018-2019 Toyota Camry
- 2018-2019 Toyota Highlander
- 2018-2019 Toyota Land Cruiser
- 2018-2019 Toyota Sequoia
- 2018-2019 Toyota Sienna
- 2018-2019 Toyota Tacoma
- 2018-2019 Toyota Tundra
- 2019 Toyota Avalon
- 2019 Toyota Corolla
Toyota does not yet have a remedy for the problem, but according to the statement issued today, the corporation hopes to notify dealers and customers of a solution by spring of 2020.
