Shoppers may have thought they were getting a good deal on the Mueller Austria Onion Chopper Pro, sold on Amazon for about $20, but the seemingly safe kitchen tool turned out to cause more harm than good for 137 people. A locking tab that holds the blades of the onion slicer proved to be defective, resulting in users’ hands or fingers sliding into the blades.
According to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), about 106,000 slicers have been recalled due to the hazard. Mueller Austria, located in Oakland, CA, received a total of 266 incident complaints.
The recall involves gray and green push-operated choppers that come with a four-cup container, two stainless steel chopping discs, and a cleaning brush and are printed with model number M-700, either on the product or on the packaging. Only models with a locking tab to hold blades in place are affected.
