18-year-old severely injured in Perryville head-on collision

PERRYVILLE, MO (PERRY COUNTY) – An 18-year-old driver was airlifted to the hospital after being struck by another driver head-on in Perry County yesterday afternoon.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the accident occurred about 3.5 miles west of Perryville, on Route T and Edgarfield Lane, at 2:55 p.m.

The driver of a 2017 Ford F-250 pickup truck, 38-year-old Perryville man Jacob E. Balsman, went over the center line and crashed head-on into a 2004 Ford Focus operated by Patton resident Justin J. Brotherton, 18.

Brotherton was airlifted to Barnes-Jewish Hospital for the treatment of severe injuries.

Balsman was not reported as hurt.

Neither of the drivers was wearing a seatbelt when the crash occurred.

The vehicles were totaled in the crash.
