Rural Missouri doctor loses license after amputating patient’s toe on porch

DEEPWATER, MO (HENRY COUNTY) – A doctor in Missouri had his medical license revoked after amputating a patient’s toe on his office porch in Deepwater, located in Henry County, in the western part of the state.

According to Fox 2 Now, John Ure, 73, had his surgical and medical license revoked by the Missouri State Board of Registration for the Healing Arts in June, after a surgery performed in 2016 was reviewed.

In that instance, Ure amputated a patient’s toe on his rural office porch, which reportedly lacked running water and was also used to store machinery and other items.

According to a statement by Ure made today, his surgical instruments were “absolutely perfectly sterile.” He was reportedly helping remove the gangrenous toe for his friend, who refused to seek proper medical care at a hospital.

At this time, it is unknown if any charges will be filed.
