Two hospitalized after ATV collides with tree in Washington County

WASHINGTON COUNTY, MO – Two people were hospitalized after an ATV collided with a tree in Washington County this afternoon, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The collision occurred about halfway between Peoria and Caledonia on Route BB, near Pierce Road, at 4:10 p.m.

60-year-old Park Hills man James E. Pope was operating a 2021 Yamaha XTR ATV when he ran off the right side of the highway, then crashed into a tree.

His passenger, 55-year-old Vicki L. Pope, also of Park Hills, sustained serious injuries in the crash, and was taken to Mercy Hospital South for treatment.

James Pope was taken to Washington County Memorial Hospital with moderate injuries.

Both victims were wearing a safety device at the time of the crash.
